LIV Golf Video Center

The LIV Watch Center is a simple and intuitive embeddable for sportsbooks that allows users to pick which LIV Golf tournament livestream to watch and to see the tournament unfold in real time. This allows LIV Golf fans an easy way to stay informed on how their favorite players are performing as they place bets.

Impact

This widget is still in development, but has been received positively by LIV Golf and is likely to be integrated into leading sportsbooks by next season

Context

Simplebet collaborated with LIV Golf in 2023, gaining access to their live low-latency streams produced for tournaments. This collaboration aimed to introduce novel live betting golf markets, including predictions like "tee shot result" and "player score on hole."

The goal was to integrate these betting opportunities into the existing streams, enhancing the viewing experience for LIV fans and allowing bettors to track their live bets in real-time alongside the tournament. While other widgets of this nature exist for PGA Tournaments, we wanted to avoid our being as cluttered and overwhelming as what was currently in the market.

The goal

Design an embeddable widget that lets LIV Golf fans watch live tournament streams and key tournament info to better inform their betting decisions

Approach

The goal was to create a compact widget to be embedded in sportsbooks, considering available streams and accessible data. V1 aimed to display enough pertinent information for users to follow tournaments and place live bets on golfers within the widget, understanding it would be surrounded by other sportsbook content.

Understanding what's available

Before sketching anything, I compiled a list of available streams—initially, Par 3 holes for day one, with potential for future Featured Group and Featured Player streams. I also cataloged the available LIV Golf tournament data we could use, considering various tournament states such as in-between rounds, playoffs, and pre-tournament phases.

Brainstorming & testing

Based on the data and streams we had, I brainstormed different ways to present tournament data and for users to navigate between streams to find the clearest way to present information to casual golf fans

I created clickable prototypes in figma of a couple narrowed down directions and conducted both A/B tests in usability hub as well as user interviews to get a better sense of what type of navigation and content users thought was most important for them to make an informed bet in golf

Iterate and high fidelity

I then developed motion prototypes based on iterated high-fidelity designs, shared these with stakeholders like LIV and sales, and used them for documentation purposes. The designs were given detailed documentation and were handed off to the development team. Continuous design quality assurance was implemented to maintain consistency and functionality.

Next steps

The initial design is in development and hasn't been integrated with any sportsbooks or sports media sites yet. Gathering feedback from customers once the widget is integrated would be beneficial. Based on initial user interviews, potential design enhancements include incorporating additional player stats like strokes gained and player scoring trends. Additionally, introducing historical scatter plots showing player performance on specific holes over time could be considered.

Lessons learned

Ensuring navigation fits without overwhelming the available space, being mindful of real estate constraints.
